Who I am

Greetings to all my fellow internet surfers. My name, for all practical purposes of concealing my identity for fear it will get stolen, is The Fiish.

I'm an MK, or for the non church going crowd a Missionary Kid, who lives on the island of Guadeloupe in the caribian. Here's a picture so you can see where it is. Guadeloupe is a small tropical island in the Caribian chain that was the product of a valcanic erruption long ago. It's French ruled but the French never talk about it and for good reason. The local inhabitants of the island are mostly Africans that were French slaves during the Colonial period. They are now a royal pain in the side to the French and I think that the latter would like nothing more than to give them independace and be done with it.

I'll break down life on the island in a few short points:

1. Hot. It has never snowed on the island but it very nearly did once on the higest peak of the tallest mountain, wich concequently is the volcano that made the island and is also still active. The average temperature is up in the eighties on a cool day and up to hundreds on hot days.

2. Expensive. Everything you can buy that is not locally produced is very expensive. A sony walkman that you could get at the local Wall Mart for $19 costs 70 to 100 euros, a euro being like a $1.60 or somthing. This is mostly due to import tax and the corruption in the economy. For all you Xbox and PlayStation fans, a video game here costs about $125 even if its an old one.

3. Anoying. In America there are laws about workers going on strike. Here there are laws preventing people from interfeering in strikes. In other words your right to go on strike is protected. So the dock workers can go on strike and all food, electronics, medical supplys, everything stops comeing in. It's all there on the ships but the people refuse to unload it. So the supermaket shelves clear out, the hospitals dont get any supplys, it turns into a regular desert everywhere. And you know why the workers were on strike? Because they wanted another day of paid vacation. That's it! While on the subject of strikes I want to point another thing out. These strikes can be much more harmful than just a lack of food. The hospital and the Water, and electric companeys can go on strike. A friend of mine had a heart attack while the hospital was on strike. His famly rushed him to the emergency room and they sent him away. Half his heart died all because some stupid people wanted more money or more vacation or more coffee. Thats my little rant on that. By the way the guy who had the heart attack is still alive and is in France right now for heart observation.

4.Most of the time, Fun. Ok there are bad sides to living here but I have to admit that it is pretty neat! I mean I live on an island. Thats somthing that most Americans wish they could do. The beach is a little drive from my house, I eat great food, and I've seen some awsome stuff.

Ok so that's my list. Now a little more about me:

I was born on the island I now call home. I am an American citizen because my parents are Americans. I have lived about 4 out of 17 years of my life in the States, and studyed in French and American public schools. Currently I'm Home schooled. I'm going to turn 18 in January (YAY!) and will be comeing to the America For college next year. I'm going to Thadeus Stevens College Of Technology in Lancaster PA to study Mechanical Engineering.

My intrests include: Guitar playing and building, forgeing, knife collecting, and a bunch of other stuff that you'll find out about as I continue to blog.

The reason I started a blog is because the forum that I was a member of shut down recently and I needed somwhere else to express myself.

So I gess that is good enough for a first post. It says Who I am,What I am, Where I am, Where I'm comeing from, and Where I'm going. And thats all for now.

Tootles
